Bespoke mid-16th/ early 17th century stays.
These stays create the historically correct shape of this period supporting your bust and shaping your waist.
They are made in cotton and/or linen and they are lined with cotton and/or linen.
These stays are boned with synthetic whalebone or flexible steel bones; they feature a back spiral lacing and tabs/skirts over the hips to protect your skin and support the petticoat/gown.
This listing shows two possible styles for this type of stays: 'style A' and 'style B'.
The shape and support offered by 'style A' and 'style B' are the same, they are both lined and they have the same amount of bones channels.
'Style A' recreates the look of an extant late 16th century corset featuring the same finishing touches, like hand sewn tabs/skirts and hand sewn binding all around the corset, while 'style B' has a slightly simpler look and finishing.
For both styles you can request 2 additional eyelets on the front and 2 on each side to tie understructures like a petticoat or a farthingale.
Options for the corset/stays boning:
Half boned stays= flexible steel bones
Full boned stays= synthetic whalebone(Difference between flexible steel bones and synthetic whalebones:
the first are heavier, they are less inclined to bend if stored incorrectly or due to body heat but they are more sensitive to perspiration. The second are lighter and, even if they get slightly bent, the corset can be restored with pressing. Both types of boning combine stiffness and flexibility suitable for this type of garment and historical time period)
Eyelets can be:
-whipped eyelets (hand sewn with silk thread)
-metal eyelet hand-covered with silk thread (this option has slightly larger eyelets)
The corset will be made in cotton or linen and with the color/colors of your choice, but the lining will always be undeyed or natural white.
While white linen or cotton it's always available, for other colors please send a message to check color availability.
*fabric or color availability depends on the suppliers and can change from season to season*
Any design/fabric change and/or any addition of decorative details must be requested before purchase and involve a variation in costs; your fabric choice must be communicated before purchase.
