Early 17th century wool doublet, made to measure.
The doublet is made of wool and lined with linen or cotton; it's fastened on the front with hand stitched linen ribbons decorated with metal aglets or with hidden hooks, depending on the customer's preference. The cuffs are lined with linen or cotton too and they are fastened with a traditional 17th century style metal button.
The doublet depicted in the video and photo has the sleeves attached / stitched only to the upper part of the armhole to allow to move more easily despite the volume of the shirt (or smock) worn underneath: the doublet can be requested also with the sleeves completely attached, in this case there are no price difference, only the sleeves will be slightly larger. In both cases the sleeves will be lined and hand finished.
This doublet is suitable for 1600-1620 attire, mostly peasant attire: if you would like to request a doublet suitable for the upper class, please see the "custom orders" section below.
Belt and pouch are not included.
The doublet will be made in the color of your choice: please send a message to check color availability.*Please note: fabric or color availability depends on the suppliers and can change from season to season.*
Any design/fabric change and/or any addition of decorative details must be requested before purchase and involve a variation in costs; your fabric choice must be communicated before purchase.
If you want to order this garment with, for example, the 17th century gown and you would like to request a combined shipping, it must be communicated before purchase.
Measurements
Once you have placed your order, you will receive a list of the measurements that will be needed to make your bespoke garment/ garments plus a diagram / tutorial that will show you how to correctly take those measurements.
Mock-up and fitting
Once I have received your measurements I will make a mock-up of the doublet: this prototype will be necessary to achieve the correct fitting for this gown.
The mock up service is provided both for customers who can come by the studio for fittings and for customers living abroad.Customers living abroad will receive the mock-up via courier: we will schedule a video call in which we are going to check the fitting and, once any changes have been established, the customer will send the prototipe back to Elaine's studio (please note: the cost of the mock-up shipment, return and custom fees are charged to the customer).
The cost of the mock-up and fitting is already included in the price of this doublet but the eventual shippings fees are not so please note: before placing your order send via message or at elainecouture.info@gmail.com the shipping address, your height and bust-chest-hips circumference so I can calculate the cost of the shipping and return cost and add it to your total. Instead if you come to try it at the studio there will be no shipping costs to add.
Custom orders
any request of
-design changes of the gown design or fabric (silk for example)
-design changes of decorative elements (embroideries, etc )
must be requested before purchase, because they involve a variation in costs and processing time.
For an estimate, please send an email at elainecouture.info@gmail.com
Processing time
After the purchase, the fabric selection and receiving your measurements it takes about 1 and a half / 2 month for the doublet to be completed.
Your bespoke order will take part of a production cycle in which other garments and accessories are created. For this reason it's recommended to order your doublet in advance of your event/historical re-enactment/wedding date because not always it will be possible to speed your custom order.
