This type of workshop is focused on the study and making of corsets and stays.
All the workshops are a one-to-one class held at the Elaine's Couture studio (please note: no video lessons / calls for these classes) ; the difficulty level of each workshop is indicated in the description.
Each workshop begins with a lecture about the necessary materials and/or techniques, and then moves on to the making of the garment / garments.
The participant will be assisted and guided through the study and process: from the pattern (drafted following historical samples and references), to each cutting and sewing step, up to the finishing touches.

For groups of students or academies/institutes/schools it's possible to organize the workshop in other labs or equipped workspaces: depending on the number of participants and the city in which it will take place, an estimate will be provided.
2025 Workshop
1600 - 1630 Stays : 25 - 26- 27 e 28 April
In this workshop we will make an early 17th century corset usually referred to as stays or bodies.
First we will analyze the materials and techniques needed to reproduce this historical garment, then the participant will be assisted and guided in the process: from the pattern drafted following historical samples and references, to placing, cutting and sewing the mock-up, to finally creating the finished stays.
The workshop is a one-to-one class and it lasts 28 hours over four days. It costs 570 euros, the price includes the materials needed to make the corset/stays.
The garment will be made in linen and/or cotton (the fabric color will be chosen by the teacher); the participant is strictly required to indicate any allergies to fabrics, fibers or dyes before booking the workshop.
This workshop is suited for those who already have some experience with cutting, hand sewing and machine sewing.
The workshop will be held at Elaine’s Couture studio on the 25 - 26 - 27 and 28 of April 2025 during the studio's opening hours.
