1840's dressing gown, made to measure.

This robe can be ordered in different fabrics (silk taffeta/dupioni, wool cloth, summer-weight wool, linen/cotton, faux silk) and different colours.
The bodice is decorated with thin piping on the back and shoulders and the belt is decorated with a hand made tassel.
The dressing gown is lined with cotton or linen and it's decorated with quilted velvet details on the cuffs, neck and center front.
The quilting can be machine made or hand made, padded or not, you can choose your favorite option while ordering your bespoke garment.
The robe is opened in the front and can be closed:
- simply with the belt (like in the picture)
- with hidden hooks plus a belt (the hooks will be placed from the neck to the waist line)
- with hidden buttons plus a belt (the buttons will be placed from the neck to the waist line)
- with buttons on the outside plus the decorative belt (in this case the buttons will go from the neck to the bottom of the gown).
As shown in the picture the robe has knife pleats (front) and cartridge pleats (back) around the waist.

Undergarments are not included, but they can be requested: see the following “custom orders” section.
Please note: the pin shown in the picture is not included and can't be ordered.

The dressing gown will be made in the color/colors of your choice, but being an historical costume, if you want to maintain the historical accuracy, I will recommend/suggest to avoid modern colours/patterns.
Please send a message to check color / fabric availability.
*fabric or color availability depends on the suppliers and can change from season to season*

Any design/fabric change and/or any addition of decorative details must be requested before purchase and involve a variation in costs; your fabric choice must be communicated before purchase.

Once you have placed your order, you will receive a list of the measurements that will be needed to make your bespoke garment/ garments plus a diagram / tutorial that will show you how to correctly take those measurements.

Mock-up and fitting:

Before placing your order you can request a mock-up of the dressing gown: for this design is not strictly needed but it's always suggested to request it, for an estimate, please send an email at

The mock up service is provided both for customers who can come by the the studio for fittings and for customers living abroad.

Customers living abroad will receive the mock-up via courier: we will schedule a video call in which we are going to check the fitting and, once any changes have been established, the customer will send the prototipe back to Elaine's studio (please note: the cost of the mock-up shipment, return and custom fees are charged to the customer).

The cost of this additional service and shipping plus return costs will be defined in the estimate for the bespoke/custom made garment.

Custom orders:
any request of
-design changes of the gown design or fabric
-design changes of decorative elements
-made to measure corset /petticoat/ chemise
must be requested before purchase, because they involve a variation in costs and processing time.

Processing time:
After the purchase, the fabric selection and receiving your measurements it takes about 45 /60 business days  for the dressing gown to be completed.

Your bespoke order will take part of a production cycle in which other garments and accessories are created.
For this reason it's recommended to order your gown in advance of your event/historical re-enactment/wedding date because not always it will be possible to speed your custom order.
